Sometimes known now as "the Big Red Barn", "the Barn", Craftworks at the barn or just simply: Craftworks; we're a locally owned and operated Peterborough and Kawartha's business. You might remember us from downtown Peterborough as the store was originally opened in 1997 by Debbie and Darrell Junkin on the corner of Sherbrooke and Water street. It was our original hope to start a small business in the community where our roots were. We opened the store with the intent to showcase local talent and provide a unique shopping experience to its visitors.
In 2009, Craftworks picked up its giant rocking chair and moved to its new location at the Barn just East of Fowler's Corners. Thanks to the amazing community of Peterborough and the Kawarthas, the business has flourished and expanded both in size and products! Now we not only include handmade Ontario Mennonite furniture and home décor, but a number of crafters and antique vendors also fill the aisles of the store with unique gifts and treasures. We also sell a range of gourmet food stuffs such as Empire cheese, local maple syrup, spices, sauces, local meat products, Mennonite fruit and meat pies (Yum!), and a large assortment of new, classic, and home-made candies. Don't believe us? Come check us out! You wont be disappointed!
Craftworks is also a proud member of the Chamber of Commerce and Retail Council of Canada, as well as a supporter of The Arthritis Society, The Peterborough Kinsmen Club, Cystic Fibrosis, The United Way, Kawartha Choice and many more. We enjoy working to serve a community that offers us so much in return!
Though we've replaced our giant rocking chair with a Muskoka Chair, we continue to operate 7 days a week almost 362 days of the year! Don't miss out because Craftworks is so much more than shopping, it's also a tourist destination! On summer Thursday evenings you can find us rolling with the Cruise Night car show, boy is it a happening place! Inside the store we're also now carrying multiple lines of unique apparel including Tilley Endurables, Plum Loco, and Pink Martini, Buddha clothing, and Yoga Jeans!
Don't forget to check out our revamped Gardening and Hardware store which features huge assortments of hooks, knobs, hinges, brackets, lighting and great options for your next DIY project!!
